Harlton Organ Scholarships Trust (HOST)
Registered Charity No 1119011
Harlton is fortunate in having a magnificent three-manual pipe organ in the parish church.
Harlton Organ Scholarships Trust was established in 2007 to support one or more organ scholarships in perpetuity. Each scholarship pays for organ lessons by a professional organist and helps to prepare young organists for the next stage of their careers.
Organ scholarships are open to young people between 13 and 18 years from the surrounding area who wish to develop organ playing skills. Most applicants have reached at least Grade 7 in piano playing. As part of their training, organ scholars are expected to play the organ at Sunday morning services in Harlton church on at least two Sundays every month, and to participate in an annual concert.
Since the inception of the Trust in 2007, over 20 young people have benefited from Harlton organ scholarships, and several have gone on to secure organ scholarships at Oxford and Cambridge Colleges, other UK universities, and English cathedrals.
HOST CD
A recording of music played on the Harlton church organ by Dr Christopher Whitton is available in Harlton Church.
