If you have driven past the Haslingfield Recreation Ground on a Wednesday afternoon between 4 and 6pm during term time, you will have noticed a grey double decker bus parked in the car park. This is a mobile Youth Club, run by the Connections Bus Project (a charity that works in villages where there are no youth facilities).
Young people (Secondary School pupils) from Harlton and Haslingfield meet there – playing computer games, doing craft activities and talking. The Youth Leaders involve them in discussions on subjects that are important to them and also give them advice when they are thinking about what they will do when they leave school. The bus is funded by Haslingfield and Harlton Parish Councils.
The Scarecrow Festival, Haslingfield
The scarecrow festival takes place every other year: a walk round the village at festival tiome is guaranteed to lift the spirits – you probably won’t be able to stop yourself laughing out loud at some of the scarecrows!
Wellhouse Meadow and the Bakehouse, Haslingfield
The Bluebell Woods, Great Eversden
Lovely at any time of the year, but especially so in the bluebell season – Eversden Woods can be a bit difficult to get to – there’s quite a walk from every direction as they sit between Great Eversden, Kingston and Wimpole – but it’s well worth the effort especially at bluebell time in April and/or May, depending on the season. Eversden woods are very old coppiced woodland and the bluebells really love growng there.
Even at this time of the year it’s a “welly walk” as there can be plenty of boggy tracks. If you do go to the woods at bluebell time, take care not to trample the leaves of the bluebells as this can kill the plants.
