Harlton Church

The parish church of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary is the oldest and most distinguished building in the village, having been built during the last quarter of the 14th century. For more than 650 years it has been the focus of worship in Harlton and the setting for community events.

In recent years the church has hosted a series of gala concerts and other musical events which have a wide following in the district. A newly built three manual organ has significantly enhanced the musical resources.

Worship and Services

Harlton is part of the Lordsbridge Team Ministry which belongs to the Bourn Deanery of the Diocese of Ely.

The Church is open for private prayer every day from 9 – 5.

Services of Morning Prayer or Communion are held at 11 am on Sundays. (Please note that there is not always a service in Harlton on the fifth Sunday. There is normally a joint service on this day which may be held at one of the other churches in the group).

Details of the service each week are posted on the notice board on the Glebe wall, but for further information please call either Nicholas Branson (details on the contact page) and on the Lordsbridge website.  The Lordsbridge ministry team has made available services for the congregation at Harlton Church.

Harlton has a tradition of welcoming Christians of all denominations to take communion. Visitors are always very welcome to join our services.

Church Life

The ties between Church and Village are strong. The Church has an events committee that actively organises a host of events to which everyone in the Village (and neighbouring villages) is invited. These include:

• Illustrated talks to bring village members and others together for fellowship and listen to resident experts on a range of topics

•Events tied to Easter, Mothering Sunday, Harvest, Carol Service, Pets’ service, country walks, musical concerts – and other activities that build on parishioners’ passions, professional endeavours and creative pursuits

•Food Bank collection

Weddings are regarded as an important part of the Church’s outreach and the village has a lovely wedding venue a walk away from the Church.
